Pittman Wins, Kinser Regains Points Lead at Powercom Park By Richard Day BEAVER DAM, WI (August 3) – Daryn Pittman spun under the checkered flag just inches ahead of Jason Sides Sunday to win the "A" Feature at The Raceway @ Powercom Park in one of the most exciting finishes in O’Reilly World of Outlaws Series history. Pittman, who passed early leader Steve Kinser for second place early in the final lap, raced wheel-to-wheel with Sides the third and fourth corners. They collided close to the finish line, spun and the 2002 Manufacturers Hard Charger Award winner stopped in the infield in turn one as the winner. Kinser, who led the first 33 laps, passed Danny Lasoski for the series points lead by finishing in third place.

"I didn't know what was going to happen when we got to that traffic," Pittman said following his second straight main event victory. "Nobody wants to see Jason win more than I do. He and his guys are doing a great job for their first year out here. He gave me just enough room on the last corner, and I used every bit of it. I had a couple of races stolen from me here with the (World of Outlaws) Gumout Series, so it's really nice to come back here and get a win like this. "This was another Mopar (engine) Joe (Gaerte) and the guys put together for us, and we couldn't be happier. We started running one last Wednesday at Sharon and Thursday it won, so we figured we keep that one fresh for the big money shows. Then we come out tonight with this one and it runs awesome, too."

Pittman, the second-fastest qualifier in the 44-car field, earned the right to start the 35-lap "A" Feature outside the second row by following Sides across the finish line in the Second Dash Race. Kinser started on the pole after winning his 21st Dash Race of the year. "The King of the Outlaws" drove his #11 Quaker State Maxim into the lead as the green flag fell in the O’Reilly World of Outlaws Series’ 47th main event of the season. Pittman and Powercom Park’s new single-lap record holder, Paul McMahan, exchanged third place during the opening lap. Pittman and McMahan took turns passing each other again after Brian Paulus spun in turn four late in the second lap. Kinser was six car-lengths ahead of Sides when he entered lapped traffic during the sixth lap. The Kevin Gobrecht Rookie of the Year candidate closed to within two car-lengths of the leader in dense lapped traffic three laps later.

Pittman drove Sher-Don Motorsports’ #21 Hop & Sack J&J past McMahan in the high groove between the third and fourth corners late in lap 15, only to have McMahan come back to regain third place deep in turn two the next time around. Jason Meyers, who exchanged fifth place with Mike Reinke during the ninth and 10th laps, passed Pittman for fourth late in lap 16. McMahan lost third place four laps later when he collided with First Heat Race winner Kurt Davis in the fourth corner and flipped. Scott Biertzer hit the retaining wall and flipped as he tried to avoid the crash. Kinser controlled the ensuing restart, and built a 10-car-length advantage within four laps.

Sides caught "The King of the Outlaws" in dense lapped traffic during the 28th lap, however. Pittman started charging back toward the front with 3ľ laps remaining, passing Meyers for third place with an inside move between turns one and two before tracking down the leaders. Sides executed a daring, inside move past Kinser deep in the fourth corner to take the lead late in lap 34. Pittman, a man on a mission during the final four laps, slid under "The King of the Outlaws" in turn two, and caught Sides in turn three before their front-stretch collision sent them spinning across the finish line.

"I wish we could have the last month back," Pittman said following the ninth victory of his O’Reilly World of Outlaws Series career. "We've struggled all year long it seems, but my guys have been working really hard. We have our motor program turned around, and things have really come together for us lately. These Mopar motors are running great. We've been qualifying really well and that helps your entire program when you can be fast all night long. This is a great time to have things come together and hopefully this carries over the next couple of weeks as well."

Kinser moved seven points ahead of Lasoski in the point standings with his 32nd top-five finish of the season. Ninth-starting Donny Schatz finished in fourth place, ahead of Meyers, Lasoski, Joey Saldana, Scott Neitzel, "B" Feature winner John Haeni and Kim Mock. Lasoski had led the point standings since the second event of the O’Reilly World of Outlaws Series 25th Anniversary Season. McMahan chopped .482 seconds off the qualifying standard Tim Shaffer set last July 10th with a 103.040-M.P.H. lap around the high-banked, 1/3-mile oval.

The O’Reilly World of Outlaws Series will race at Hartford Speedway Park for the first time in seven years Wednesday, then sanction the "Night Before The Big One" event at Eldora Speedway Friday.
