Haulmark All Star Sprint Results - Eldora Speedway - Thu. 8/7/03 By Scott Hall ROSSBURG, OH - Kasey Kahne scored a "fun" sixth career All Star win Thursday night at Eldora Speedway in the Haulmark All Star sprint car 30 lap feature which kicked off the Historical Big One weekend. This made the Busch Grand National star the 18th different winner out of 35 All Star events this season in the Beef Packers No. 83jr. "These guys gave me an awesome car to drive. It's cool to win at Eldora. This is as fun as anything I've ever won. To win running right up on the wall is a pretty cool deal," Kahne related as he thanked his car owner Dennis Roth and sponsor Ore-Cal in victory lane.

Ed Neumeister started from the pole with Nick Naber alongside and in row two it was Jonathan Allard and Chad Kemenah. Greg Wilson and Kahne made up row three. Naber took the initial lead for one circuit until Kemenah got by with a slide job off turn four to lead. Kemenah pulled out to a half straightaway lead over Naber with Kahne taking over the runnerup spot on lap six. The first caution appeared on lap eight when fourth place Allard and Naber collided, collecting fifth running Jan Howard in the process.

Naber returned after changing a flat and Howard was eliminated. Kemenah now led over Kahne, Allard, who emerged from the contact unscathed, and Wilson. After a lap was in Naber tagged the turn three wall for another yellow. Kemenah now led for the restart over Kahne, Wilson, Allard and Jason Johnson, who started 15th in the Harrison Trucking No. 22. Kemenah had Kahne on his back bumper each lap as the pair raced on an open racetrack. Kemenah's car was faster in turns three and four but Kahne was superior in turns one and two.

At the halfway mark the pair again entered lapped traffic, with only a car length separating the lead duo. Johnson jumped the cushion and smacked the turn two wall on lap 16, slowing action again. Kemenah kept Kahne at bay again through the restart and the lap 19 running order was Kemenah, Kahne, Wilson, Blaney and Dean Jacobs as Allard jumped the cushion and hit the wall in turn four losing a shock and also hitting the frontstretch concrete to bring out the caution again. Kahne made a nice move on the restart to pull alongside Kemenah, but he could not get by. Lap 22 saw Kahne make the winning move by going high on the backstretch to gain enough momentum to make a slide job pass of Kemenah in turn four to emerge with the lead. Once on top, Kahne's machine was like a rocket and he pulled away easily from Kemenah.

Jimmy Stinson tagged the wall on lap 25, bringing out another yellow which turned into a red flag fuel stop. For the final five lap dash to the checkered it was Kahne ahead of Kemenah, Wilson and Jacobs. Kahne jumped out to another big lead as Wilson put a nice slide job on Kemenah and took over second. He finished ten car lengths behind with Kemenah in third and Mark Kinser fourth after starting 17th. Jacobs was fifth ahead of ninth starting Dale Blaney, Danny Smith who started 16th, Shepard, Bill Rose and Butch Schroeder.

"Hopefully tonight will set us back on our way to winning some races. That Hampshire motor was hitting hard tonight. The American Race Tires were pretty darn good tonight," runner-up Wilson concluded.

The Crown Battery heat fell to Dean Jacobs, the B&B Products heat went to Wilson and the Engler Machine and Tool heat was won by Johnson. Jan Howard captured the Haulmark Dash and Kahne was the Huggins Cams Fast Time qualifier.
