Haulmark All Star Sprint Results - Lawrenceburg Speedway - Sat. 9/13/03 By Scott Hall LAWRENCEBURG, IN - Dale Blaney held off Dean and Kenny Jacobs Saturday night at the Lawrenceburg Speedway to win the Haulmark All Star sprint car 50 lap Hoosier Fall Classic feature. The 21st annual event paid $12,000 to win to 15th starting Blaney for his second Lawrenceburg triumph of 2003 in the Fritz Andrews Maxim with Fisher power.

"We didn't have a great time trial run, I felt like I let my guys down a little bit, maybe I really didn't push it as hard as I should have, so I told them I had 50 laps to make up for it," Blaney stated in victory lane. "The car was great, I could run anywhere. It all just worked out for us. We're awful glad to get a win here," Blaney concluded after recording his fourth win of the season in the Troyer Trail Bologna, Youngstown Harley Davidson machine.

Jason Johnson and Rob Chaney started from the front row for the 12 and ½ mile contest with Johnson leading the first go round and Chaney leading on lap two. Action was slowed by a red on lap five when fourth running Jeremy Campbell got sideways and collected fifth place Kelly Kinser with Kinser ending up standing on his tail alongside Campbell.

Chaney pulled away again following the restart, but Reed moved back in on his bumper followed by Kenny Jacobs and 12th starter Kraig Kinser. Kinser was third on lap 11 and second on lap 13 as the leader entered lapped traffic. A lap later Kinser went low on the backstretch to pass Chaney for the lead. Kinser led into lapped traffic and was running the bottom groove to perfection, motoring easily away from the rest of the pack. Then disaster struck Kinser on lap 27 as he bumped an infield tire, breaking the left front suspension on the Delco Remy No. 11. Kinser was forced to retire, handing the lead to Reed.

Reed led K. Jacobs, Blaney, Johnson, Greg Wilson and Jeff Shepard to the green for the restart, but just one circuit later Blaney took command with a low move off turn four. From that point on it was Blaney in the lead, with a fierce battle among Reed and K. Jacobs for second. As the laps wound down K. Jacobs secured second with Reed comfortably in third. With five laps to go and Blaney once again in lapped traffic, D. Jacobs was on the move forward and took third from a fading Reed on lap 47. Dean went to the low groove to pass his brother for second on the last lap and that's how they finished.

"I had a good race car and running on the bottom seems to work real good for me here. We still didn't have our best motor in so second was pretty good tonight," Dean Jacobs recalled afterward.

"I needed a couple breaks with lapped cars. We had a better race car on the top that anyone else but it just didn't work out. I couldn't get clear of Dale to get on top and take off," a disappointed Kenny Jacobs said of his third place run.

Johnson finished fourth with ninth starting Shepard fifth. Reed held on to sixth, followed by All Star points leader Kemenah, who started 11th. Greg Wilson ended up eighth ahead of last row starter Chad Blonde and Brock Mayes. The Crown Battery heat fell to Marc Jessup in his second career winged race, the B&B Products heat went to Erin Crocker, the Engler Machine and Tool heat was won by Nick Naber and the TP Wings heat fell to Ryan Coniam. Spud Gustin won the Outerwears Pre-filters C Main. United Aluminum Window Sales & Consulting B Main. Byron Reed captured the Haulmark Dash. Greg Wilson was the Huggins Cams Fast Time qualifier earning a leather jacket, courtesy of Tri-State Outlook. Race fans Amanda Puckett and David Dalton were married on the frontstretch in a pre-race ceremony.
