HAMMERDOWN! 100 HIGHLIGHTS
BIGGEST RACES OF 2002 -
10/01/03 - The
second annual "HammerDown! Hundred" list of the
100 biggest sprint car, midget, or silver crown races for the calendar year
2002 has been compiled. For the second consecutive year,
The Knoxville Nationals is the top rated race in the United States. The
annual, August, four-day gathering at the "Sprint Car Capitol of the
World", in Knoxville, Iowa earned the top honor for paying $125,000
to winner Steve Kinser.
HammerDownUSA.com Editor, Bobby Gerould says,
"The 'dream-schedule' list is based primarily on the winners share
of prize money but we did factor the average purse per night of racing this
time around. Also, tradition, pageantry, and media coverage were factored."
Gerould adds, "The list of 100 races shows there were more than 20
races in 2002 that paid $20,000 or more to the winner."
The list also brings to light some major
events that deserve to have TV and radio coverage in the future.
The Historical Big One at Eldora Speedway,
in New Weston, Ohio, offering $100,000 to the winner was ranked second,
followed by Eldora's Kings Royal.
The Buckeye state, Ohio, earned the "Hot
Bed" award for notching 13 races in the HammerDown! 100. California,
and Indiana both had eight races on the list, while Iowa, and Pennsylvania
followed with seven and six races listed respectively.
