Calistoga Speedway, Harvest Classic 2002

(continued from front) ...With Furr out of the race, the lap 25 red flag revealed that Pittman had less rubber than second place runner Jac Haudenschild. The drama never materialized though, as Pittman was able to run a fast straight line, and hold off all challenges. In the winners circle, Pittman said, "Compared to Pevely, this tire wasn’t even close (to being completely used)—we were a lot worse at Pevely. We didn’t have a very good car the first couple of days—we had driveline problems, and I drove like crap the first two days, but my guys kept working at it, and we had an awesome car for the feature tonight. ...I’ve won four races so far this year, but they’ve all been one day $10,000 races, so this is my biggest win by far."

Pittman started eighth in the feature, and was able to capitalize on Furr's misfortune by making some bold early race moves. Steve Kinser, the World of Outlaws points leader, moved forward from his seventh starting spot to claim third place. Danny Lasoski set the pace for the opening 12 laps, before Furr moved around him. The Dude ultimately finished fourth. Saturday night prelim winner, Tim Shaffer was fifth. Moments after taking the checkered flag, Shaffer flipped hard in turn two. He emerged unhurt.

Clovis California's Jason Meyers finished sixth, and wrapped up the 2002 Calistoga track championship. The coveted Scarborough Trophy has been the top honor for the big half-mile since 1968. Former track title holder, Randy Hannagan returned to the scene of his leg breaking 2001 crash, to finish 7th. The top ten was concluded with Mark Kinser, Brent Kaeding, and Stevie Smith.
