Tim Kaeding Returns Home for Some Home Cooking By: Troy Hennig (Chico, CA 5-10-02)…Tim Kaeding returned to Chico Friday night, at a place he calls his home track, to get his first victory of the year during the 20 lap sprint car main event at Silver Dollar Speedway. Kaeding, a two-time track champion at Chico, took the lead on lap one and never looked back. “It’s always good to come back to Chico,” said Kaeding. “There’s just something about his place that I love.”

Kaeding started along side John Gray at the start of the 20 lap main event. Kaeding took the lead and Gray fell to second, however, Sean Becker flipped in turn one and the race was halted. On the restart, Kaeding started to gain an advantage over Gray until a lap five caution for Jason York. From there on out the track was fast and the leaders raced single file until they caught up the rear of the field. Kaeding was awesome in lapped traffic. This is where he really opened up his lead over the rest of the field. Cars deep in the field included Brent Kaeding and Stephen Allard. Brent Kaeding started in the seventh row and was able to finish in the ninth spot. The other car on the move was Allard who started in the sixth row and charged his way up to a seventh place finish. Back up front, Tim Kaeding was dominating in the Wright One Construction #35. He held off Gray, who finished second, and third place finisher Rick Hirst.

The 12 lap sprint car B main had an interesting twist thrown into it when track point’s leader Jonathan Allard had the lead until trying to pass a slower car, made contact, and brought his car to a stop. The race transferred five cars and Allard restarted dead last and drove his heart out but only managed to get back to a sixth place finish. At the line it was Stephen Allard with the win followed by Garrett Ishii, Kevin Pylant, Bud Walberg and Shain Matthews.

Three sprint car heat races were won by Jason York, Brent Kaeding and Bryan Amos. For the sixth week in a row, Peter Murphy turned the quickest lap at Silver Dollar Speedway with a 13.689.
