Swindell Posts Calistoga Win with Dramatic Last Lap Pass - Calistoga, CA. 05/25/02 ...Visiting Tennessee pilot, Sammy Swindell took advantage of a yellow flag with a half-lap remaining in the 25-lap A-main at Calistoga Speedway Saturday night, to close up on leader, Tim Kaeding. On the restart, Swindell moved around Kaeding to steal a victory from the third generation California driver. Swindell, driving Dennis Roth's #83 JR., Eagle / Gaerte, didn't look to be in the mix for a win. He was trailing Kaeding by several car-lengths after both had accepted the original white flag. However, as Kaeding raced off turn two on the final lap, the caution came out for a stalled car, forcing a 'green-white-checkered', two-lap dash. Kaeding could not hold back the three time World of Outlaws champion on the restart.
Chico driver, Johnny Gray wrecked hard in turn one in the main-event. He walked away. Gray had the crowd cheering for him when he won the second heat. Sacramento's Stuart Krum was also a flip victim in the feature. Krum was about to be lapped, and was trying to do the right thing by moving out of the leaders groove. However, when his #S2 hit the turn two marbles, he got loose, hit the crash wall, and flipped. Krum was uninjured.
