SMITH WINS CINDY ROWE SPEED WEEK SHOW AT SSP

 

Newberrytown, PA (June 29, 2006) – Susquehanna Speedway Park is becoming a second home for Stevie Smith.

 

Smith of Broken Arrow, Okla., won Thursday night’s Cindy Rowe Auto Glass Pennsylvania Sprint Car Speed Week feature, his second consecutive at the speedway.  Smith passed Jeff Shepard for the lead on lap 28 of the 30-lap main event.

 

Smith won $5,100, which included the posted $5,000 prize and another $100 bonus for being the Hard Charger.  Smith started 13th.

 

Shepard jumped into the lead at the start of the main event.  Keith Kauffman followed in second, but Fred Rahmer took the position later in the event.  Rahmer tried to get the lead from Shepard several times, but he never pulled off the lead pass.

 

Smith charged from fourth to first in a span of three laps.  He was running in the fourth spot on lap 25 before getting by Shepard on lap 28.

 

Shepard settled for second followed by Rahmer, Lance Dewease and Kauffman.  Greg Hodnett, Blane Heimbach, Doug Esh, Mark Smith and Don Kreitz Jr. filled the top 10.

 

Rahmer set fast time in the field of 33 cars with a lap of 15.789 sec.  Esh, Alan Krimes and Mark Coldren won heat races.  Niki Young won the consolation.

 

Ray Broderick defeated Larry Hughes Jr., Tommy Slanker, Jason Failor and Mike Goodwin in the 20-lap Xtreme Stock Car feature. 

 

 

Bob Bender Jr. was victorious in the Xtreme Stock Car feature.  Smoke Christine was second followed by Rich Lomman, Brian Shue and Kevin Armstrong completed the top five.

 

 

Karen Hawthorne won the 15 laps Women on Wheels feature.

 

 

 

The Trail Motors Super Sportsman Series will continue on Friday, June 30 with the 50-lap Summer Fun Championship paying $1,500.00 to the winner (standard weekly SSP Sportsman Purse for the remainder of the field – 24 starters).  The first 40 laps of the Trail Motors Sportsman feature will count all green and yellow laps until 40 laps are complete and the last 10 laps must be green flag laps.  Handicapping will be used for the Trail Motors Super Sportsman, Late Models and the Street Stocks based on the last three events. 

The 40-lap Miller’s Racing Parts Late Model Championship will pay $1,000.00 to the winner (standard weekly SSP Late Model Purse for the remainder of the field – 24 starters).  The first 30 laps of the feature will count all green and yellow laps until 30 laps are complete and the last 10 laps must be green flag laps. 

The 30-lap Salisbury Mechanical Services Street Stock Championship will pay $700.00 to win (standard weekly SSP Street Stock Purse for the remainder of the field – 24 starters).  The first 20 laps of the feature will count all green and yellow laps until 20 laps are complete and the last 10 laps must be green flag laps.  Also, the Mini Vans will be in action in a 10-lap York Haven Auto Sales Snake Race.

Also, on Friday night, a special guest celebrity will be singing the National Anthem.  Lou Lloyd from New York City, originally from Harrisburg, will be starting of the evening with the Star Spangled Banner.  Lloyd appeared in many movies including Friday the 13th (Part 8), soap operas and many times on Broadway.  He was also a stand-in for John Candy. 

Gates will open for both the pit area and grandstand area at 5:00 p.m. on Friday, June 30.  Warmups begin at 7:00 p.m. with racing action beginning at 7:30 p.m.  Race fans can continue to expect a fast paced, action packed 2 ˝ to 3 hour program each and every night.  There is no increase in pit or grandstand admission prices for this special event.  Grandstand ticket prices are Adults (18 & older) $12.00; Teens (13-17) $8.00; and Children (12 & under) are free.  Pit pass prices are $20.00 with a reduced rate for SSP license holders.  There is no raindate for this event. 

There will be an SSP Repeat Fan Discount of a $2.00 discount for each person with a ticket stub from Friday, June 16 event to be used only for the Summer Fun Championships on Friday, June 30.  Returning fans are encouraged to write their name, address and phone number on the back of the stub to be entered into special drawings during the season for great prizes.  Last season, 10 winners were drawn from the repeat fans and each winner received $30.00 in SSP Gift Certificates for tickets or concessions.  The discount is not valid for pit pass purchases.

Then on Monday night, July 3, SSP will host the inaugural Eichelberger’s U-Pull It Super Show featuring the ARDC Midgets, the 600cc Micro Sprints and Legends Cars.  SSP 410 Sprint Car regular Cody Darrah will return in his 600cc Micro Sprint to defend his win from last October’s Candy Bowl Micro Sprint Victory.
