Keith Hutton Killed in Oskaloosa Crash - ...Bobby Gerould, HammerDownUSA.com Editor. Oskaloosa, IA. 08/12/03 ....Sprint car driver Keith Hutton was killed at Southern Iowa Speedway Tuesday night. Hutton succumbed to injuries after an accident during the C-Main of the Ultimate Challenge.

Hutton, originally from Australia, only raced a handful of events per year, focusing on his crew chief duties for Vermeer MotorSports #55 driven by Clint Garner at Knoxville Raceway. Hutton raced in the Masters Classic this year for drivers over age 50. He was a crew-member for parts of two seasons with Randy Hannagan on the World of Outlaws circuit.

Eyewitness reports state that Hutton got together with another car and flipped on the front straight-away. Jenny Hutton, the chief scorer at Knoxville Raceway, survives her husband.

The Ultimate Challenge race is sanctioned by Sprint Car Racing Association (SCRA), and promoted by McTwo promotions. The race is of prominence for it's large purse, and winner's share plus the fact that it runs one night before the opening of the Knoxville Nationals. The SCRA runs non-wing sprint car races, while the Nationals, are winged.

Boston Reid won the race. The top five was filled out by Matt Westfall, J.J. Yeley, Damion Gardner, and Jac Haudenschild
