GARDNER TAKES PERRIS SPRINT, NOW 3RD IN POINTS

 

             Damion Gardner of Concord, Calif. led the final 16 laps of

Saturday night's 50-lap Valvoline USAC/CRA Sprint car feature at the Perris

(Calif.) Auto Speedway. The victory in Ron Chaffin's Temecula Valley Pipe &

Supply/Arizona Race Mart John Boy/Shaver left him third in the series

standings going into a June 12 race at the same track.

 

             Gardner was trailed by Mike Kirby, Rip Williams, Steve Ostling

and Greg Bragg, with Williams now leading Kirby by 42 points and Gardner by

43 in the new standings as a result.

 

             Bobby Cody led the first 14 laps of Saturday's feature before

yielding to Ostling for laps 15-34.

 

             Troy Rutherford was the fastest PAS qualifier but was ninth in

the 30-lap main event.
