Allard wins second straight win in same weekend in Placerville event PLACERVILLE, CA (5-18-02)- It was a winning weekend for Chico driver Jonathan Allard in Pacific "360" Sprint car action as he posted his second straight victory in two nights by winning the feature event at Placerville Speedway Saturday, May 18. After winning a special 360 event Friday night at his hometown Silver Dollar Dollar Speedway, Allard made the trek to Placerville Speedway Saturday night and took home the gold in the 25-lap Pacific Sprint feature event during the fifth Hoosier Tires/Corona/Budweiser points race of the season.

In the Pacific Sprint feature, Allard took the lead at the waving of the initial green flag, powering past pole sitter Marc Mackay of Shingle Springs. Although he pulled to a distant lead early in the running, Allard felt pressure as early as the sixth lap when Jimmy Trulli of Placerville advanced from his fourth place starting position into second place. After closing in on Allard for the next eight laps, Trulli overtook Allard for the lead on the 15th lap when Allard drove too high in the fourth turn. Once in front it appeared Trulli had the muscle to lead the field as he then distanced himself from Allard but a series of yellow flags near the final laps changed things. When a yellow flag flew on lap 22 after Chris Wilson and Justin Johnson tangled on the backstretch the field tightened for the restart and Allard began chasing Trulli down for the lead and regained it on the 24th lap just as another caution flag delayed the race. The multiple yellows resulted in a single lap sprint for the lead during which Allard hesitated on a restart resulting in a front stretch melee that send fifth place runner Mackay to the pits with a flat tire and only one lap remaining upon his return.

Once the green flag waved again Trulli challenged Allard on the inside of the backstretch and the two collided sending Trulli to the infield with damage while Allard continued and David Robinson Jr. advanced into the second position and Greg DeCaires, who started 10th, muscled into the third position just prior to the waving of the checkered flag. Vern Morrison of Cameron Park finished in fourth with Billy Wallace of Grass Valley rounding out the top five.
