Get out the broom, Allard sweeps Chowchilla 410 Shootout

Chowchilla, Ca -
October 8, 2006... 2006 Golden State Challenge Series champion Jonathan Allard dominated the IQ Motorsports Chowchilla 410 Shootout Saturday night finishing off a weekend sweep of the two evening's of action. The 30 year old Chico native driving for car owner Morrie Williams won his heat race, won the six lap and led every lap of feature to score the $10,000 victory. Not even an eye injury that hampered his vision the last part of the race could slow Allard as he picked up his 11th overall feature victory of 2006.

Allard's win the six lap dash put him on the pole of the 40 lap feature and he quickly shot to the lead. Early on, however, he felt intense pressure in the form of Ricci Faria in the Betty Brite Cleaners No. 89. Lap 11 saw Faria drive to the outside of Allard just as a caution appeared for a spun car. The yellow negated the pass and the restart saw Allard in first and Faria in second.

After going back green Faria immediately put pressure on Allard and was able to nose ahead a couple times going down the backstretch, but Allard would get good drive in turns three and four to hang on to the lead. Lap 14 saw the pair race side by side all the way around the track but going into turns one and two Faria drove in a little too hard and spun to a stop relegating him to the rear of the field. The spin by Faria moved Ronnie Day up to second for the restart.

Allard continued to lead on the restart and clicked off six more laps until a "competition caution" was thrown that allowed crews to come out onto the track and make any necessary change or adjustment to their machine's.

The cars were then pushed back off after about 10 minutes and put back into line as they were before the caution. An excessively watered track coupled with cool temps in the evening made the track extremely fast all night which made passing a chore to do.

Allard was in a league of his own after the lap 20 break and checked out on every restart. The final caution of the night came on lap 29 when Shain Matthews was nudged from behind and spun to a stop in turn one. When the green came back out Allard scooted away from Day and the rest of the field in impressive fashion as his Ashley Smith prepared machine was on a rail. Allard had a straightaway lead in three laps and went on to easily pick up the checkered flag aboard the Matt & Glass Race Car Bodies, Graph X
Designs, Katie's Country Kitchen No. 0.

In 2006 Allard has won 7 Golden State Challenge races, one Chico Point Race, the Dirt Cup Cup at Skagit Speedway and both night's of the Chowchilla 410 Shootout. Even more impressive on Saturday night was the fact that he got a piece of metal in his eye that forced him to drive with one eye shut the last half of the race. For the two night's of action Allard took home a hefty $12,000.

Salinas's Ronnie Day ended up finishing second aboard the Elite Landscaping, Pacific Union Homes, Don Berry Construction No. 1. The former King of California set the night's fastest lap in qualifying and drove hard in the feature but just didn't have anything for Allard. He will now head to Tulare next week for the two day National Sprint Tour event looking to pick up a win that eluded him during the inaugural NST weekend at the Thunderbowl in February.

Fresno's Tommy Tarlton ended up third for the second night in a row in the Tachi Palace, Tarlton and Son, Sharp Insurance & Bonding No. 21. The former two time Pombo/Sargent Classic champion gave Day a couple looks for second late in the race but couldn't get by and had to settle for a third.

Fourth place went to
Fresno's Steve Kent in the Henderson Motorsports, Island Muffler & Brake, All Points Petroleum No. 7n. The 1986-?87 GSC champ had a good battle with Danny Faria Jr. the last ten laps of the race and did a nice job to hold off the hard charging driver.

Faria Jr's fifth place run was the show of the night as he came back after an early race spin to drive the wheels off of his Riverview Dairy, Coehlo Meat Company, Deboer & Sons Trucking No. 17v. The man known as "
Hollywood" put on a terrific display as he drove the high side of the speedway, wheel standing multiple times as he rode the ragged edge of the track.

Finishing sixth in the feature was
Medford, Oregon's Roger Crockett in the Finley Farms No. 11. Ricci Faria came back from his spin on lap 14 to finish seventh in the Darell Green Trucking No. 89. Eighth was grabbed by Caruther's Garrett Ishii in the Ishii Farms No. 71, ninth was Discovery Bay's Jim Skinner in the WB Equipment No. 73 and the top ten was rounded out by Geoff Duppman in the Duppman Racing No. 96.
Allard held off Ricci Faria to pick up the win in the night's dash with Tarlton, Day, Ishii and Kent completing the finish.

Heats on the night were won by Allard, Ishii and R. Faria.

Day's quick time was a lightning fast 13. 277 around the 1/3 mile Chowchilla
Speedway.
